Wide Range Humbuckers

I’m very interested in guitar and bass pickups – specifically the Wide Range Humbuckers (WRHBs) that were introduced by Fender, designed with Gibson-famed pickup builder Seth Lover. These peculiar pickups – characterized by using threaded CuNiFe rod magnets rather than steel slugs magnetized by an Alnico bar magnet – were mostly found on the ’72 Telecaster Deluxe, the Thinline Telecaster and the more obscure Starcaster.

In recent years, due to the rather unfaithful reproduction of these pickups by Fender in their Reissue guitars, several boutique builders have come up with their own takes on the WRHB, ranging from spot-on carbon copy (until recently, Telenator’s CuNiFe replica) to experimental variation (for example, the custom designs by Curtis Novak and Creamery).

The mystique surrounding the elusive sound of these pickups led me to start making my own pickups. This page will serve as documentation of my progress as a pickup builder and further as a portfolio for me to display my products online. Feel free to reach out to me via the ‘Contact’ form if you are interested in a custom hand-wound pickup.
